Qatar Airways aircraft with 248 passengers and 12 crew makes safe emergency landing at Lagos MMIA; no injuries reported, aircraft secured for inspection

A Qatar Airways aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members made a successful emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos after developing a technical fault while in Nigerian airspace.

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement, explaining that the agency received a distress call via its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines.

“The pilot executed a safe landing on the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport with LASEMA Response Team and other emergency responders standing by on extreme high alert,” the statement said.

Emergency response efforts were coordinated among multiple agencies, with the pilot and engineering crew conducting a detailed check before moving the aircraft to the apron for further inspection and repairs.

“All passengers of the distressed airplane were evacuated safely; no injuries reported, no loss of lives,” LASEMA noted, emphasising that there was no major damage to the aircraft.

The agency added that recovery operations have been completed and the aircraft has been secured on the apron, ensuring readiness for prompt maintenance.
