RCCG ordinations saw 20,627 pastors, deacons, deaconesses and assistant pastors inducted during the church’s 74th Annual Convention

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, led by General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ordained 2,820 full pastors, 11,830 deacons and deaconesses and 5,977 assistant pastors at Redemption City, Ogun State, on Sunday, 9 August 2026, as the church concluded its 74th Annual Convention.

The large-scale ordinations were among the major highlights of the week-long gathering, which brought worshippers and ministers together at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The church disclosed that 2,820 candidates were elevated to the office of full pastor, which it describes as the highest pastoral office within the RCCG.

The church’s Holy Ghost Service account said the position was also held by Adeboye, who has served as the church’s General Overseer for decades.

The RCCG ordinations also included 11,830 deacons and deaconesses and 5,977 assistant pastors, taking the total number of people ordained across the three categories to 20,627.

The church announced the figures through its social media platforms during the convention, which ran from Monday, 3 August, to Sunday, 9 August 2026.

The convention was themed “Mountain Movers” and featured daily worship sessions, Bible studies, prayer meetings, seminars and specialised programmes for different groups within the church.

The Holy Ghost Service on Friday was followed by Holy Communion and Anointing Service on Saturday, while Sunday brought the ordination ceremonies and final thanksgiving service.

Adeboye led several of the programmes alongside senior ministers, including his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye.

The ordination ceremonies provided one of the most significant moments of the gathering, as newly appointed ministers formally assumed responsibilities within the church’s extensive structure.

Beyond the ordinations, the convention also featured personal testimonies and thanksgiving from worshippers who attended the annual gathering.

Another notable moment came on the final day when Adeboye announced that at least 88 babies had been born at Redemption City during the convention.

The figure comprised 52 boys and 36 girls, adding an unexpected human-interest dimension to an event largely centred on worship, teaching and spiritual activities.

The annual convention has long served as one of the RCCG’s largest gatherings, drawing members from different parts of Nigeria and other countries.

This year’s programme again combined spiritual activities with organisational milestones, with the ordination of thousands of ministers highlighting the church’s continuing expansion and need for a broader pastoral workforce.

For the newly ordained ministers, the ceremonies marked the beginning of new responsibilities within the RCCG rather than simply the conclusion of a week-long convention.

The church’s leadership is expected to deploy the newly ordained ministers across its various parishes and ministries, although the specific assignments of the individuals were not detailed in the announcement.
