RCCG says it is awaiting investigation results over pastor misconduct claims involving alleged sexual coercion in Ogbomoso

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has said it is awaiting the outcome of an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against one of its pastors in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The church’s Publicity Secretary, Lanre Oyegbola, confirmed on Saturday that the church was aware of the allegations involving a youth pastor at the RCCG Strongtower parish located near Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

The pastor came under public scrutiny after a dramatic confrontation during a church service, where a woman alleged that he attempted to sexually assault and coerce her.

In a video circulating on social media, the woman, reportedly a student of LAUTECH, accused the pastor of inviting her to his residence under the pretext of collecting food before allegedly attempting to force himself on her.

The woman further alleged that after she resisted his advances, the pastor demanded oral sex and claimed to have had similar encounters with other female church members.

Responding during the confrontation captured in the video, the pastor was heard saying, “She has spoken right, and the story is sweet,” before the recording ended abruptly.

The incident has since triggered intense reactions online, with several women reportedly coming forward with similar allegations involving unwanted advances and abuse of pastoral authority.

Reacting to the controversy, Oyegbola said the church was awaiting the conclusion of investigations by the school authorities before taking further action.

“I have been able to confirm that the church is aware of the allegations and is waiting for the outcome of the investigation of the school authority to know the next steps,” Oyegbola said.

When asked whether the accused pastor had been suspended, he maintained that the church would await the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.

Efforts to obtain comments from the National Overseer of RCCG, Sunday Akande, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to him were not answered at the time of filing this report.

Attempts to reach the accused pastor through social media platforms also proved unsuccessful.

The spokesperson for LAUTECH, Lekan Fadeyi, said he was unaware of the matter but promised to verify whether any formal complaint had been submitted to the institution.

Also reacting, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not been briefed on the incident.

According to him, such matters are typically handled by the state Criminal Investigation Department.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Lagos State, Stephen Adegbite, called for a thorough and fair investigation into the RCCG pastor misconduct claims.

“The allegations should be properly investigated and if established, whoever is found wanting should answer questions on what has really transpired,” Adegbite said.

He stressed that Christians and religious leaders must uphold moral standards and protect vulnerable members of society while ensuring that all allegations are carefully investigated in the interest of justice.
