Redeemer’s University Convocation honours 1,341 graduates, including 185 first-class, marking a milestone in academic excellence and growth

Redeemer’s University Convocation once again highlights the institution’s growing academic reputation as it prepares to graduate 1,341 students during its 17th ceremony in Ede, Osun State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Akindele, announced the figures at a press briefing ahead of the grand event, which also coincides with the university’s 20th anniversary.

He confirmed that an impressive 185 students achieved first-class honours, while 662 earned second-class upper degrees.

This year’s Redeemer’s University Convocation will honour the top graduate, Joel Durigbo of the Mechanical Engineering Department, who attained a perfect CGPA of 5.0, a feat the Vice-Chancellor described as “inspiring and a testament to the university’s academic standards”.

Beyond undergraduate success, the university will confer 338 postgraduate degrees, including doctoral and MBA awards, during a dedicated ceremony scheduled for 10 October.

Professor Akindele called the dual celebration “a season of double honour”, not only for the graduating class, known as the Indomitable Set, but for the entire university community.

He highlighted the institution’s recent selection by TETFund as one of only eight private universities in Nigeria eligible to train postgraduate scholars — a powerful endorsement of its academic quality.

Among the honorary degree recipients are renowned evangelist Mike Bamiloye, philanthropist Omolewa Ahmed, and Sahara Group’s GMD Kola Adeshina.

Redeemer’s University Convocation this year also celebrates a significant achievement in international rankings.

The university has emerged second in Nigeria in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and leads in multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

“This is not just a convocation; it is a reflection of our journey and a preview of our future,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
