The 17-year-old Ngumoha, making just his second senior appearance, displayed ice-cold composure as he curled in Mohamed Salah’s low cross deep into stoppage time, igniting wild celebrations from the away end at St James’ Park.

In a match overshadowed before kickoff by Alexander Isak’s unresolved transfer saga, both teams delivered a fiercely contested battle from the first whistle.

Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, returning from suspension, was booked early, setting the tone for a high-octane encounter.

Newcastle looked sharper initially, but the Reds struck first.

Gravenberch pounced on a loose ball 30 yards out and fired home a pinpoint effort, continuing Liverpool’s stunning run of scoring in 36 straight league matches.
