Rivers State Police Command warns women against collecting transport fare from men without showing up, calling it fraud and punishable under Nigerian law

The Rivers State Police Command has issued a stern warning against the growing trend of women collecting transport fares from men and failing to attend scheduled meetings, describing the act as a criminal offence.

In a viral video shared on X, Police Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko explained that this practice constitutes obtaining money under false pretence (419 fraud) and offenders are liable to prosecution.

“Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is an offence, a punishable offence,” Iringe-Koko said on Wednesday.

She urged the public to refrain from such deceitful financial dealings and advised victims to report cases to the police for necessary action.
