Sisters arrested for kidnapping brother, Friday Chukwu, after N30m ransom paid. Enugu Police traced and nabbed them during a second kidnap attempt

Two sisters have been arrested for kidnapping their brother in a shocking case that has rocked the Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Enugu State.

The suspects, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, are younger siblings of the victim, Mr Friday Chukwu, and both serve in Nigerian security agencies. Juliet is with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, while Ngozi serves in the Nigeria Immigration Service.

According to sources, the sisters facilitated the kidnap of their brother on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway last month.

He was abducted near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Ituku-Ozalla. The family reportedly paid N30 million for his release.

However, their actions came to light after they allegedly masterminded another abduction—this time of Engineer Dennis Igwe, a manager at China Oriental Mining Company—along the same route.

The police tracked them to a hotel where they were apprehended while attempting to divide the N10 million ransom paid for the second kidnapping.

“We were shocked. This shouldn’t be taken lightly,” said social media commentator Chika Nwoba, calling on authorities to act decisively. “They’ve been linked to multiple crimes around Ishiagu—kidnapping, looting, and vandalism.”

The Chairman of Ivo LGA, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed the arrests. “Although it happened outside my LGA, I’ve written to both the Enugu Police Command and the Ebonyi NSCDC. We must ensure the safety of our people,” he stated.

Four other suspects are still at large. The Enugu Police Command is continuing the investigation.

Efforts to get official comments from the Ebonyi Police Command were unsuccessful as of Wednesday.
