The Acting Media Information Officer of the joint task force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Friday.

Sinivie said troops of Sector 1 came under attack from armed men on October 29 while conducting a fighting patrol along the Shadow-Old Kuyello Road in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He said the soldiers responded with superior firepower, repelled the attack and pursued the fleeing assailants.

“Subsequent pursuit and exploitation of the area led to the neutralisation of three terrorists and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, three rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle,” the statement said.

The military spokesman added that no casualty was recorded among the troops during the encounter.

In a separate operation on Friday, October 30, soldiers recovered 28 cows and 13 sheep in Shanono town, following a patrol in the area.

According to Sinivie, the animals had been abandoned by suspected cattle rustlers who fled after sighting the advancing troops.

“On sighting the advancing patrol, the suspected criminals abandoned the animals and fled the area,” he said.

He added that arrangements were being made to hand over the recovered livestock to the appropriate authorities.

The task force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorists and other criminal groups across the North-West, while urging residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information.

The latest operations form part of wider military efforts to tackle armed attacks, terrorism and livestock theft in the region, where insecurity continues to affect communities and livelihoods.
