Thalente Mbatha opened the scoring early, followed by Oswin Appolis’ precise strike before half-time. Evidence Makgopa completed the triumph midway through the second half, sealing a commanding victory that sent fans into jubilation across Johannesburg and beyond.

Despite being docked three points earlier in the qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player, South Africa World Cup qualification hopes remained alive thanks to their consistency and determination.

They finished with 18 points from a possible 30, demonstrating discipline and tactical maturity in a highly competitive African qualifying zone.

This historic win ends a 16-year drought since their last World Cup appearance in 2010, when South Africa hosted the tournament and filled stadiums with vuvuzelas and passion.
