Southern Governors’ Forum condemns deadly Kwara attack, urges security agencies to arrest those responsible and restore peace

The Southern Governors’ Forum has condemned the recent deadly attack in Kwara State and called on security agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible.

The forum commiserated with the government and people of Kwara over the incident, which reportedly claimed at least 162 lives in Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Chairman of the forum and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the attack as tragic and unacceptable, noting that innocent citizens were killed while going about their lawful activities.

The governors also conveyed condolences to Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the affected communities.

According to the statement, homes and shops were destroyed during the assault, while several residents were reportedly abducted by attackers believed to be linked to extremist elements.

Abiodun stressed that Nigeria is a secular state that guarantees freedom of religion and warned against any attempt to impose religious practices through violence.

He urged law enforcement agencies to intensify operations, track down the perpetrators and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

“This senseless violence must be stopped. Nigerians deserve to live without fear, and those behind this heinous act must be brought to justice,” the statement read.
