Super Eagles FIFA Rankings rise to 38th globally after strong results, offering hope ahead of AFCON 2025 in Morocco

Nigeria’s Super Eagles FIFA Rankings have improved to 38th in the latest global standings, following a month of competitive international fixtures.

The update reflects the team’s 4–1 victory over Gabon and a 1–1 draw with DR Congo, which ended in a narrow penalty defeat in the African World Cup play-off.

The rise offers a modest but encouraging boost for the Super Eagles after the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 World Cup finals.

With 1,502.46 points, Nigeria now ranks fifth among African nations, trailing Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

Morocco remains Africa’s leader with 1,713.12 points, Senegal follows with 1,648.07, Egypt with 1,520.68, and Algeria with 1,516.37.

The Super Eagles maintain a slim edge over Tunisia, who are 40th globally, and a comfortable gap over Ivory Coast and DR Congo.

FIFA noted that changes in the rankings were driven by results across confederations and the conclusion of the final World Cup qualifying matches.

Spain continues to top the world rankings, closely followed by Argentina and France, while Brazil moved up two spots to fifth.

Despite the heartbreak in Rabat, where Frank Onyeka’s early goal was cancelled out by Elia Meschack and penalties ultimately denied Nigeria a place at the 48-team finals, the Super Eagles FIFA Rankings improvement brings hope.

A strong performance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco could further elevate Nigeria’s global position.
