Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that the Super Eagles are still awaiting clarity on their qualification status for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, amid ongoing uncertainty over the team’s pathway to the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking on Friday, the Fulham star expressed cautious optimism, noting the emotional significance for players who have yet to experience football’s premier global stage.

“We are still waiting. Hopefully we can go to the World Cup,” Iwobi said, acknowledging the difficult situation facing the squad.

Iwobi, who featured for Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, stressed that while winning the Africa Cup of Nations remains a major career milestone, many players in the current squad are eager to compete on football’s biggest stage for the first time.
