Ajibade criticises Super Falcons WAFCON 2026 preparation, questioning Nigeria’s build-up ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed concern over Nigeria’s preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) during comments shared on social media in Nigeria, amid growing uncertainty around the team’s friendly schedule and build-up programme.

The concerns come as the Nigeria Football Federation continues to adjust arrangements ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco, Morocco, following a shift by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from March to July.

The Super Falcons, led by head coach Justine Madugu, recently played two friendly matches against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses during the last international window in February and earlier this week, as part of their ongoing preparations.

However, planned double-header friendlies against Cape Verde were cancelled after the opponents withdrew, leaving the Nigeria Football Federation scrambling to secure alternative fixtures ahead of the tournament.

Rasheedat Ajibade voiced her frustration on Instagram, questioning the intensity and seriousness of the team’s preparation process as they also target qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup through the competition.

She emphasised that the team should be preparing with greater urgency, especially given the importance of WAFCON as both a continental tournament and a World Cup qualification pathway.

Super Falcons are heightened by Nigeria’s status as defending champions, following their record-extending 10th title at the last edition of the competition.

The Super Falcons are widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful women’s national teams, but questions over match readiness and fixture stability have now added pressure ahead of the continental showdown in Morocco.
