Szoboszlai Liverpool win boosts Reds after Salah row as his late penalty seals a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League

Liverpool revived their Champions League campaign with a tense 1–0 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday, secured by Dominik Szoboszlai’s late penalty at the San Siro.

The Szoboszlai Liverpool Win came during a turbulent week marked by Mohamed Salah’s open criticism of manager Arne Slot.

Salah stayed in England after accusing Slot of “throwing him under the bus” following three consecutive matches on the bench.

His absence dominated pre-match discussion, yet Liverpool fans loudly backed Slot at full-time.

The match hinged on referee Felix Zwayer’s late decision to award a penalty for a light shirt pull by Alessandro Bastoni on Florian Wirtz.

Inter protested fiercely, but Szoboszlai drilled the spot-kick home to hand Liverpool a vital victory.

Earlier, Ibrahima Konaté briefly thought he had scored, but VAR ruled his close-range header out for a handball by Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool created the better chances before half-time, with Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch both testing Yann Sommer.

Inter offered little threat. Their first attempt came in the 37th minute, before Lautaro Martínez headed straight at Alisson Becker from Bastoni’s cross.

The second half drifted, with both teams seemingly content until the late twist.

The win lifts Liverpool to 12 points from six matches and keeps them in the top eight. Those positions guarantee automatic qualification for the last 16.

Inter remain on 12 points but have lost their last two European games and created almost nothing against injury-hit Liverpool.

Inter face Arsenal next, before travelling to Borussia Dortmund, and risk slipping out of the top eight with another poor result. Last season, 16 points were enough to reach the knockouts without a play-off.

Salah’s outburst continues to overshadow Liverpool’s form. Before Tuesday, they had won only four of their previous 15 matches.

His comments triggered strong interest from Saudi Arabia, which signalled readiness to pursue him in January despite his new contract signed in April.

Liverpool, however, leave Milan with renewed momentum thanks to Szoboszlai’s decisive finish, ending a fraught week on an important high.
