A 14-year-old boy in Edo State died after a ‘bulletproof’ charm test went tragically wrong. A self-proclaimed native doctor and accomplice are in custody
A bizarre and tragic incident has occurred in Iyamu Village, Illushi, within the Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy, Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel.
The young boy lost his life while attempting to test the effectiveness of a ‘bulletproof’ charm, which was purported to render him invulnerable to physical harm.
The shocking event, which unfolded on April 2nd, 2025, turned fatal when a bottle was forcefully smashed against the teenager’s head during what was intended to be a demonstration of the charm’s potency.
This dangerous ritual was allegedly orchestrated by a self-proclaimed native doctor, identified as Amechi Edozunor, and his accomplice, Kelvin Ugru.
According to initial reports, the two men had assured young Obinna of his impending invincibility and sought to prove their claims by violently breaking a glass bottle on his head. However, the charm tragically failed to provide any protection whatsoever.
The impact of the bottle caused Obinna to immediately collapse, having sustained a severe and critical head injury. Despite being swiftly rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment, the teenager succumbed to the grave injuries he sustained three days later, on April 5th.
The horrific circumstances surrounding the young boy’s death came to the attention of law enforcement authorities when his elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbuchi, bravely reported the deeply disturbing matter to the local police.
As a direct consequence of this tragic incident, both Amechi Edozunor and Kelvin Ugru have been apprehended by the police and are currently being held in detention as investigations into their potential culpability in the boy’s death continue.
At the time of this press release, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that he had not yet received the complete and detailed information regarding the incident.
However, he assured the public that he would provide a comprehensive update as soon as he receives the necessary information from the police division currently handling this sensitive and tragic case.
This deeply disturbing incident has plunged the quiet community of Iyamu Village into a state of profound mourning and has reignited significant concerns regarding the increasingly dangerous trend of fetish practices, particularly among younger individuals within Nigerian society.
