“Me I no dey give anybody money on Friday. If you give person money that day, them go use am chop pepper soup,” Teni said in Pidgin English, drawing laughter from fans.

She recounted how someone once begged her for money to start a business but later spent the cash on a big bowl of catfish pepper soup instead.
