TESCOM teacher training initiative equips Lagos educators with digital skills and innovative pedagogy to drive 21st-century learning excellence

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping teachers with advanced skills to foster innovation and excellence in classrooms across the state.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, TESCOM Chairman Victoria Peregrino emphasised that teacher transformation remains central to safeguarding Lagos State’s educational future and socio-economic growth.

“At TESCOM, we are deliberately retooling our teachers with digital competence, innovative pedagogy, and learner-centred methodologies essential for 21st-century education,” she said.

Peregrino highlighted the commission’s structured capacity-building programmes, which focus on technology integration, competency-based instruction, adaptive teaching models, and continuous professional development across secondary schools.

She noted that digital transformation is being institutionalised, with practical training in virtual platforms, smart assessment systems, data analytics, and technology-enabled classroom management solutions.

“Digital learning is no longer optional; it is the foundation of relevant education in today’s interconnected economy,” Peregrino added, stressing the importance of infrastructure expansion and measurable teacher-readiness benchmarks.

Beyond technology, TESCOM is promoting critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, ethical leadership, and resilience among educators to prepare learners for global competitiveness and disruption.

Strategic partnerships with private sector and development organisations are strengthening mentorship pipelines, industry-aligned curricula, and sustainable teacher upskilling to meet evolving workforce needs.

“We are not pursuing reform for rhetoric, but for measurable impact,” Peregrino affirmed, underscoring that deliberate investment in teachers today will secure a future-ready workforce for Lagos State.
