The decision comes after Tottenham Hotspur endured 15 Premier League matches without a win, leaving the club in the relegation zone and two points from safety with only five matches remaining.

The crisis has deepened in 2026, with the club failing to secure a league victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since early December, raising pressure on players and coaching staff alike.

New head coach Roberto De Zerbi, appointed in late March as the club’s third manager of the season, has managed just one point from his opening two league games.

The Italian has openly called for a “change in mentality” to reverse the team’s fortunes.

In response to the crisis, Tottenham Hotspur have advertised for an “outstanding performance psychologist” to work directly with the men’s first team.

The role will focus on delivering evidence-based psychological support to elite players and improving mental resilience across the squad.

The club also plans to recruit a sport psychologist for the women’s team, signalling a broader investment in mental performance infrastructure across the organisation.

Defender Micky van de Ven has admitted the situation has taken a toll on players, describing the experience as “mentally tough” and acknowledging that the squad is “suffering” during the ongoing slump.
