UK lifts Kaduna travel ban as part of a revised foreign travel advisory, marking a major milestone in the state’s journey toward stability and global reintegration.

The United Kingdom officially reclassified Kaduna State from “Red” to “Amber”, allowing British nationals to travel there with fewer restrictions.

The update reflects the improved security landscape and significant reforms under Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during the signing of the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF) between the Kaduna State Government and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Kaduna had remained on the UK’s high-risk “Red” list since 2022, due to widespread banditry, school attacks, and displacement in rural areas.

The upgrade to “Amber” signals renewed international confidence in the state’s security efforts and reform agenda.

“This is a major vote of confidence in Kaduna’s resilience and reform agenda,” Governor Uba Sani said. “It strengthens our resolve to deliver inclusive growth.”

Speaking at the event, Cynthia Rowe, the UK’s Development Director for Nigeria, praised Kaduna’s progress:

“The reclassification to the ‘Amber’ category reflects the strides made in protecting lives and improving governance. It sends a strong signal to investors and partners—Kaduna is open for business.”

Through KaMAF, both parties have committed to enhancing collaboration in:

• Governance and transparency
• Health and education
• Agriculture
• Institutional development

Governor Sani highlighted Kaduna’s investment in public services:

• Reduced maternal and child mortality
• Improved access to healthcare
• Upgraded classrooms
• Over 10% of the 2025 budget allocated to agriculture

He also referenced several reform initiatives such as:

• Local Government Transparency and Accountability Programme
• Community Development Charters
• Issue-Based Projects focused on citizen engagement

“We’re building institutions that will outlive political tenures,” he added.

Analysts believe the lifting of the ban will attract foreign investment and development projects, restoring Kaduna’s role as a key player in Northern Nigeria’s economic resurgence.

The UK, through the KaMAF agreement, pledged continued support—emphasizing concrete, inclusive development.
