Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno meets President Tinubu in Abuja days after defecting from PDP to APC, briefing him on state developments and strategic alignment with the federal government

Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

The governor briefed the President on the general state of affairs and ongoing developments within Akwa Ibom State.

The visit follows Eno’s formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a decision he announced on June 6, 2025, after extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state.

At the time, Eno emphasized that the move was strategic and driven by admiration for President Tinubu and the need for closer alignment with the federal government to enhance development opportunities.

“We’re joining the APC today in the state interest and because of our critical admiration and respect for President Tinubu, and to provide the needed support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” he said.

The governor assured residents of Akwa Ibom that his defection would not compromise his commitment to their welfare, stressing that regardless of party affiliation, his dedication to the state’s development remains steadfast.
