UNICEF’s Mama kits in Borno aim to reduce maternal deaths. 3,700 clean delivery kits donated to support safe childbirth in 13 high-risk local governments

UNICEF Mama kits in Borno are providing life-saving support for pregnant women, as 3,700 clean and pre-packed delivery kits were donated to the state.

UNICEF Chief of Maiduguri Field Office, Francis Busiku, announced the initiative during the launch of the Mama kit distribution across 13 high-risk LGAs.

The donation targets maternal and neonatal mortality hotspots in Borno.

Busiku noted that Borno State significantly contributes to Nigeria’s maternal death rate.

“One woman dies every eight minutes during childbirth. These are preventable tragedies,” he said.

The UNICEF’s Mama kits in Borno contain essential items for clean and safe delivery, offering hope where access to healthcare is limited.

“This action aligns with UNICEF’s mission to protect women and children,” Busiku emphasized.

“Every safe birth is a victory. Every mother saved is a future secured.”

He urged governments, traditional leaders, civil society, and development partners to support the MAMMI initiative and help scale its impact.
