University of Ilorin convocation 2025 to feature Babatunde Fashola’s lecture and President Tinubu’s commissioning of key campus projects

University of Ilorin convocation 2025 will be marked by high-profile appearances from former Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, and President Bola Tinubu, as the institution hosts its 40th Convocation Ceremony from October 17 to 26.

In a statement on Thursday, the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, revealed that the week-long activities will include academic, religious, cultural, and celebratory events aimed at honouring the achievements of graduating students while showcasing the University’s continuous growth.

Fashola is scheduled to deliver the Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, October 22, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World”.

The lecture will hold at 9:00 a.m. at the University Auditorium and is expected to provide actionable insights for today’s youth.

In a show of federal presence, President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission a number of newly completed infrastructure projects on campus the next day, Thursday, October 23, at 1:30 p.m. This visit aligns with the administration’s focus on education and national development.

According to the registrar, “The Convocation Lecture by Mr Babatunde Fashola will be one of the major highlights of the event, and President Tinubu is billed to commission projects that reflect our institution’s continued growth.”

The week will commence with a Special Juma’at Service on October 17 at the University Central Mosque and a Christian Interdenominational Service on October 19 at the Chapel of the Light.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN will address the press on October 20, offering a review of the institution’s achievements.

On October 21, the Convocation Play, Joromi, will be staged at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions.

The following day, after Fashola’s lecture, the first convocation session will be held for diploma and four-year programme graduands.

Graduands from five- and six-year programmes, as well as postgraduates, will be honoured on October 23, followed by the investiture of Emeritus Professors, commissioning of projects by President Tinubu, and the Staff Merit Awards and Luncheon later in the day.

The programme will wrap up with another Juma’at Service on October 24 and a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 26.

Alfanla affirmed the University’s readiness: “We have put in place all necessary logistics and security measures to guarantee a successful celebration. We urge graduands, their families, and visitors to conduct themselves with decorum throughout the ceremonies.”

He also congratulated the graduands and commended their resilience. “We are proud of our graduands who have completed their studies successfully. We look forward to celebrating their achievements and reaffirming the University’s legacy as a leading centre of learning in Nigeria and beyond.”
