US Urges Nigerian Students to Comply with Visa Regulations, Embrace Innovation at EducationUSA Fair Abuja 2025

The United States has urged Nigerian students aspiring to study in the US to strictly maintain their student visa status and comply with all immigration regulations to fully benefit from their academic experiences abroad.

Speaking at the EducationUSA Fair Abuja 2025, held under the theme “Empowering Future: Discover American Excellence in Education and Innovation”, the Public Diplomacy Officer of the US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, Brian Neubert, stressed the importance of responsible conduct while studying in the United States.

Neubert highlighted that 28 American universities and colleges were in Abuja to engage directly with Nigerian students and recruit them to their campuses, a reflection of the growing academic ties between the two nations.

“For those who decide to pursue studies in the United States, and if found eligible for a student visa, it is important to responsibly maintain your visa status. Comply with all regulations so you can make the most of your time and return to Nigeria with cherished experiences,” Neubert advised.

He reiterated that the EducationUSA team in Nigeria offers free guidance to support students throughout the application and admission process.

Addressing the students, Neubert acknowledged their passion for education as a cultural priority deeply rooted in Nigeria.

“You reflect the value placed on education in Nigeria. Your parents have prioritised your desire to learn, and that’s why you are here,” he said.

Neubert also praised the track record of Nigerian students in the US, noting that many have gone on to make significant contributions both in Nigeria and globally.

Recognising Nigeria’s vibrant creative energy, Neubert said innovation in the country extends beyond major cities.

“Not just in Lagos and Nollywood, or Abuja, but in Ilorin, Kano, Jos, and rural areas—Nigerians are solving problems, creating change and generating jobs,” he said.

He stressed that education is the key to unlocking such innovation, calling the inclusion of “innovation” in the 2025 fair’s theme timely and essential.

“Considering the challenges Nigeria faces, it will take creative problem-solving to secure a brighter future—and we believe you are capable of delivering that,” he concluded.
