The United States retained the FIBA Women’s World Cup on Sunday 13 September 2026, beating France 97-79 in the final after absorbing an early surge and then pulling clear.

France pressed the holders in the opening exchanges. The Americans then found their rhythm, won the rebound battle and used cleaner offence after half-time to take command. France kept fighting. The United States stayed composed to the horn.

Breanna Stewart led the champions with 22 points and nine rebounds. Jackie Young scored 18. Kahleah Copper added 15 and Caitlin Clark 12. Dominique Malonga top-scored for France with 21. Gabby Williams had 20.

The result defends the title the United States won at the previous World Cup and extends a long grip on the women’s game.

France’s run to a first final of this tournament was a genuine mark. The gap on the scoreboard still showed how hard it remains to live with the Americans once they settle.
