Victor Boniface Leverkusen Comeback gathers pace as the Nigerian striker delivers another impressive pre-season performance for Bayer Leverkusen

Victor Boniface strengthened his push for a Bayer Leverkusen return to prominence on Saturday, 25 July 2026, producing another influential performance in the German club’s 3-1 pre-season victory over Kickers Offenbach.

The 25-year-old Nigerian forward entered the match at half-time and immediately improved Leverkusen’s attacking rhythm with his movement, creativity and intelligent link-up play, helping the Bundesliga side complete a second-half comeback.

Victor Boniface gained further momentum as the striker played a direct role in two of Leverkusen’s goals after the break.

After controlling the ball impressively and driving into the penalty area, Boniface created space before setting up Jonas Hofmann to give Leverkusen a 2-1 lead.

He was involved again in the build-up to the third goal, combining effectively with Hofmann before the German midfielder delivered a cross that Afonso Moreira converted from close range.

Boniface nearly completed his impressive display with a goal of his own in the 65th minute after linking up with Moreira and Ezequiel Fernández. However, his effort from inside the box was blocked before reaching the target.

The performance followed his two-goal contribution in Leverkusen’s opening pre-season victory against Sportfreunde Bamberg, providing further evidence that the striker is regaining confidence and sharpness ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Boniface’s progress comes after a difficult period affected by injuries and an interrupted loan spell at Werder Bremen, which limited his playing time and created uncertainty over his future at the club.

Since returning to Leverkusen, the striker has shown encouraging signs of recovering the form that previously established him as one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous attacking players.

Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes recently praised Boniface’s improved physical condition following his performance against Bamberg, while reports from Germany suggest new head coach Carles Martínez wants the forward to continue building fitness gradually.

Against Offenbach, Boniface demonstrated not only attacking quality but also a willingness to contribute defensively and create opportunities for teammates.
