Victor Osimhen to wear protective arm gear after hand surgery, targeting a return for Galatasaray late in the season

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen will reportedly wear new protective gear on his arm when he returns to action following surgery for a hand fracture sustained during their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with Liverpool.

The 27-year-old forward suffered the injury after a collision with Ibrahima Konaté last week, forcing him to undergo surgery earlier this week.

His recovery period is expected to last approximately six weeks.

Turkish journalist Arda Özkurt, reporting via Winner Galatasaray, confirmed that Osimhen may use a special protective splint during matches if required.

“If Victor Osimhen’s treatment process progresses as planned, he can wear the jersey with a special protective splint if needed,” Özkurt said.

The striker, already known for wearing a protective mask after cheekbone surgery in 2021, will use the gear to immobilise his forearm and wrist, support the bone during healing, reduce pain, and prevent further injury.

The device typically features adjustable straps and breathable padding for comfort.

Reports suggest Osimhen could return for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26, depending on the progress of his rehabilitation.

Should his recovery take longer, he may only feature in Galatasaray’s final two league matches against Antalyaspor at home and Kasımpaşa away.

Osimhen also hopes to help Galatasaray advance in the Turkish Cup, where the club is currently in the quarter-finals, facing Gençlerbirliği.
