WAFCON 2024 Final Nigeria vs Morocco promises a historic night for African women’s football as the two giants face off on Saturday at the 21,000-seat Prince Moulay Abdellah Olympic Annex Stadium in Rabat.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are chasing their record-extending 10th title in what they’ve dubbed “Mission X,” while hosts Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses aim for a first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) championship on home soil.

Morocco reached the final after a tense 1-1 draw with Ghana, prevailing 4-2 in a penalty shootout. Sakina Ouzraoui’s equalizer kept the dream alive before the team held their nerve in front of a roaring crowd.

Nigeria booked their place with a last-gasp 2-1 win over South Africa, thanks to Michelle Alozie’s dramatic injury-time goal. The Falcons remain unbeaten throughout the tournament and are determined to avenge their 2022 semifinal defeat to Morocco, also in Rabat.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade says the team is ready:

“This final will demand everything from us. We’ll give more than 100 percent.”

Morocco will rely on stars like Ghizlane Chebbak and Ouzraoui, while Nigeria’s attack features Asisat Oshoala, Jennifer Echegini, and the ever-reliable goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa will officiate, with VAR led by Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga. The final will be played in a stadium set to host future AFCON and FIFA World Cup matches, adding extra prestige.

A win for Morocco would see them become only the fourth nation to win the WAFCON title. A Nigerian victory would further cement their legendary status in African women’s football.
