CAF confirms WAFCON 2026 final draw in Morocco on Jan 15, with awards for Women’s Coach of the Year and continental football achievers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the final draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will take place in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, 15 January 2026 at 2 pm local time.

The CAF statement also revealed that on the same day, the winners of the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award, along with other accolades recognising outstanding achievements in women’s football across Africa, will be announced.

The 2026 edition of WAFCON will be historic, as it expands to a 16-team tournament, up from the previous 12, highlighting the growth and competitiveness of women’s football on the continent.

Qualified nations include hosts Morocco, alongside Nigeria, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

CAF noted that the expansion offers more countries the chance to compete at the continental level, reflecting the rising popularity and investment in women’s football across Africa.

The announcement has been welcomed by football fans and stakeholders, who see it as a major step in developing the women’s game and providing wider exposure for African talent on the global stage.
