WAFCON 2026 quarter-final fixtures are confirmed as Nigeria face Cameroon, while South Africa meet Morocco in the knockout stage

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final line-up began to take shape on Wednesday, 5 August, after the conclusion of Group C matches confirmed three knockout fixtures, including a meeting between defending champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Cameroon this weekend.

The WAFCON 2026 quarter-final fixtures were finalised after Nigeria secured qualification with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt, while Malawi defeated Zambia 2-1 in the other Group C encounter.

The results saw Malawi finish top of the group on six points, with Nigeria advancing in second place.

Nigeria’s progress followed a dramatic recovery after the Super Falcons suffered an unexpected 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi in their opening match.

Victories over Zambia and Egypt helped the defending champions regain momentum as they continued their pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons will now meet Cameroon in one of the weekend quarter-final clashes, setting up a highly anticipated encounter between two of Africa’s most established women’s football nations.

Hosts Morocco will face reigning African champions South Africa in another major fixture. Morocco secured their place in the knockout stage with strong home support behind them, while South Africa remain among the tournament favourites after their recent continental success.

Elsewhere, Ivory Coast will take on Algeria for a place in the semi-finals. Both teams progressed through competitive group campaigns and will be aiming to make a deep run in Morocco.

Malawi, who produced one of the biggest surprises of the group stage by defeating Nigeria, are still waiting to discover their quarter-final opponents. The Scorchers will face either Ghana or Mali, depending on the outcome of the remaining group standings.

The quarter-final stage begins on Saturday, with eight teams competing for the four available semi-final places.

As the tournament moves into the knockout rounds, the margin for error becomes smaller, with every match carrying the weight of continental ambition.
