The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 762 suspects in 2025, including 428 for capital offences, while ramping up security deployment across schools, markets, and worship centres during the festive season

The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of 762 suspects across the state from January to December 23, 2025, according to a statement by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

Of the total, 428 individuals were apprehended for serious offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, culpable homicide, and other capital crimes.

Meanwhile, 298 suspects were arrested for minor offences such as theft, burglary, cheating, breach of public peace, and other social vices.

Most of the suspects have been arraigned before courts, while a few remain under investigation.

“These achievements were highlighted during the strategic security review meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ado, with Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Departments, and Tactical Commanders across the state,” Abdulkarim said.

The Commissioner commended officers for their resilience and dedication in safeguarding lives and property despite ongoing security challenges, urging them to sustain the momentum.

In preparation for the festive season, all DPOs were directed to maximise security at worship centres, schools, recreational facilities, children’s playgrounds, markets, and other crowded areas.

Schools are to receive adequate security coverage, especially as academic activities resume on January 15, 2025.

The Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has activated a comprehensive Operational Order aimed at maintaining law and order, enhancing public safety, and ensuring a peaceful festive period across the state.

Intelligence gathering and proactive policing strategies were emphasised as pivotal in crime prevention.

SP Abdulkarim further stressed the importance of community engagement, vigilance in protecting police facilities and arms, and prompt response to distress calls.
