Zinoleesky reveals music journey, saying he ran away from home to pursue music after facing family opposition and made bold sacrifices for his dream

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Zinoleesky has opened up about the radical choices he made to follow his dream of becoming a music star, revealing that he once ran away from home to escape family pressure.

Speaking in a candid interview on SB Live, the ‘Kilofeshe’ crooner recounted the challenges he faced growing up with parents who did not support his passion for music.

Zinoleesky, whose real name is Oniyide Azeez, said the lack of encouragement from his family pushed him to make what he described as “crazy” decisions.

“Nigerian parents are always in denial whenever you want to do stuff like music,” he said.

“They want you to do a professional course or learn a trade. So, you just have to find a way. Me, I did some crazy stuffs. I ran away from home to do music.”

Raised in a typical Nigerian household, Zinoleesky initially started out as a rapper before switching to singing.

His freestyle clips began going viral on social media platforms in 2017, capturing the attention of a growing fan base and industry players.

Early in his journey, he reportedly turned down a record deal from Davido’s DMW, choosing instead to remain independent until December 2019, when he joined Marlian Music, the label led by controversial artist Naira Marley.

Since signing with Marlian Music, Zinoleesky has carved out a distinct space in the Afrobeats scene.

His debut EP, Chrome Eccentric, released in 2020, delivered chart-topping hits like ‘Ma Pariwo’ and ‘Kilofeshe’, firmly establishing him as a rising star.

Zinoleesky’s story mirrors the experiences of many young Nigerian artists who must defy tradition and social expectations to pursue their creative aspirations.

His journey from rejection at home to success on the stage has inspired many fans and upcoming musicians.

Reflecting on the sacrifices he made, Zinoleesky appears proud of his choices and how far they’ve brought him.
