Super Falcons’ WAFCON Victory was celebrated in Abuja as President Tinubu hosted the team following their 10th continental title win.

Super Falcons’ WAFCON victory have been honoured by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their spectacular triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they secured their record-extending 10th continental title.

The Super Falcons, who defeated host nation Morocco in a thrilling final in Rabat, were received amid cheers by top government officials, including Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo), alongside several federal ministers, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport before proceeding to the State House.

The team’s reception is part of a broader national celebration that has erupted since their victory.

President Tinubu is expected to personally commend the team for their resilience, discipline, and the pride they’ve brought to the country once again.

The Super Falcons’ win has not only strengthened Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also rekindled hope and unity across the nation.

Adding to the victory buzz, four Falcons stars – Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie – were named in the tournament’s Best XI by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This recognition underlines Nigeria’s dominance during the tournament.

Ajibade, who played a pivotal role in the team’s run, was named Player of the Tournament and clinched Woman of the Match awards in three of Nigeria’s six games.

Okoronkwo contributed two goals and four assists, further solidifying her place in the spotlight.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was outstanding throughout the tournament, keeping four clean sheets and earning the Best Goalkeeper title, while Michelle Alozie’s consistency and heroic semi-final goal against South Africa earned her deserved recognition.
