Wike flags off 198km water pipeline project in Bwari, Abuja, promising jobs, potable water, and timely delivery ahead of Tinubu’s third-year anniversary

Wike flags off water project to provide safe, pipe-borne water to thousands of residents in Bwari Area Council and nearby communities, launching Lot 1 of a 198km pipeline on Wednesday, August 21, 2025.

At the project unveiling, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike hailed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to delivering on his promises, stating that the initiative is a key part of expanding infrastructure beyond the Abuja city centre into satellite towns.

“One thing you must give to Mr President is that when he makes promises, he fulfils them. Today, we are in Bwari. Tomorrow, we will be in Karu,” Wike said.

The water pipeline project, being executed by China Geo-engineering Construction Limited (CGC), will span multiple communities including Ushafa, Jigu, Kuduru, Kuchuku, and Bwari township.

Wike confirmed that 50% of the total contract sum has already been disbursed to the contractors, ensuring smooth mobilisation and timely execution.

“We discussed with the contractors and pleaded that they deliver by the third-year anniversary of Mr President,” he said.

The minister revealed that the project would generate no fewer than 1,600 direct jobs, contributing to the local economy while reducing dependency on boreholes.

“Residents will no longer need to dig boreholes. They’ll simply connect to the central water source, and water will flow,” he assured.

Wike said the administration’s goal is to cover all six area councils before 2027.

After Bwari and Karu, future phases will extend to Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji, with allocations planned in the upcoming budget.

Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), said the pipeline will significantly improve lives in underserved communities.

“This project is not only for Bwari township, but extends to other areas like Ushafa, Kuduru, and Kuchuku,” he noted.
