Donnarumma joins Man City in a €35m deal from PSG. The Italian goalkeeper replaces Ederson and signs a five-year contract

Donnarumma joins Man City in a major summer transfer, completing a €35 million switch from Paris Saint-Germain, the Premier League champions confirmed on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper, who played a key role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season and Italy’s Euro 2020 victory, signed a five-year deal with Pep Guardiola’s side, replacing long-serving Brazilian keeper Ederson, who has joined Fenerbahce after eight years at the Etihad.

Speaking after the move, Donnarumma described the transfer as a milestone in his career.

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” he said.
“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.”

Donnarumma’s arrival ends an era for City, with Ederson moving to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, bringing to a close an eight-year spell in which he won multiple league titles and a Champions League.

City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, hailed Donnarumma’s signing as a strategic boost ahead of the new campaign.

“Gianluigi’s pedigree, quality, and record speak for itself, and we are all absolutely thrilled he has joined us,” Viana said.

“He brings a wealth of top-level experience and knows what it takes to win at the highest level.”

Donnarumma’s exclusion from PSG’s recent Super Cup squad was the clearest sign of his impending departure, with Luis Enrique reportedly opting for new direction between the sticks.
