Lagos security guard arrested for abducting two-year-old boy and demanding ₦5m ransom. Police confirm child’s rescue and suspect’s confession

Lagos security guard child abduction has once again raised alarm over domestic staff security, following the arrest of a man who kidnapped his employer’s two-year-old son and demanded a ₦5 million ransom.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect, Amos Kini, was apprehended by tactical operatives at his hideout in the Elemoro area.

The incident, which occurred late on 21 September 2025, was first reported by the child’s mother at the Elemoro Police Division.

She revealed that Kini, who worked as their private security guard, had vanished with both her toddler and mobile phone.

Adebisi explained, “The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the boy’s father, demanding Five Million Naira for the child’s release.”

While the child was eventually released unharmed, police confirmed that their tactical squad, codenamed Hyena, pursued the matter with urgency and precision.

Their breakthrough came two days later, on 23 September, when Kini was located and arrested based on actionable intelligence.

“The suspect has since confessed to the crime and remains in custody,” Adebisi noted. “He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

Officers also questioned Aruna Dauda, the guarantor who endorsed Kini’s employment.

While Dauda was not implicated in the kidnapping, police say he remains part of ongoing enquiries.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, strongly condemned the abduction, describing it as “an inexcusable betrayal of trust.”

He reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for capital crimes and assured Lagosians of continued efforts to rid communities of such threats.

Jimoh also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and cautious when hiring domestic staff.

“Background checks and references must never be treated as a formality,” he stressed.

The command’s statement comes amid rising concerns over violent crimes in the state.

Earlier this month, five bodies recovered from the Oreta riverbank in Ikorodu were confirmed to be cult-related victims.

More than 26 suspects have since been arrested in connection with various cult clashes.
