Geoffrey Dozieobiibe, a 33-year-old Nigerian national, has been deported from India after allegedly residing in the country illegally since 2019.

According to reports from The Times of India, Dozieobiibe was arrested by the Hyderabad task force last Thursday for entering India through Nepal without valid travel documents.

Authorities said the Nigerian had been living in the country for nearly six years without a passport or visa and was under surveillance for suspected links to drug peddling.

Police in Hyderabad and Bangalore confirmed that Dozieobiibe was apprehended after moving suspiciously within the Tolichowki Police Station area.

Following his arrest, investigators discovered that he had entered India by road via Nepal, bypassing immigration checks.

Though no drugs were found in his possession at the time of arrest, his travel records and background were verified with assistance from anti-drug enforcement agencies.

Officials said his continued stay in the country posed a potential security concern. “His presence was deemed risky due to possible involvement in drug-related activities,” one officer told local media.

To enable his removal, an emergency travel certificate was issued by the Nigerian Embassy, allowing Indian authorities to finalise deportation procedures.

Dozieobiibe’s case has once again drawn attention to illegal immigration through South Asia’s porous borders, a route increasingly used by undocumented migrants seeking entry into India.

Indian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to tightening border security and maintaining strict oversight on foreign nationals living without valid papers.
