Somtochukwu Maduagwu burial plans released as ARISE News honours the slain broadcaster with tributes, services, and a funeral mass in Anambra

Somtochukwu Maduagwu burial arrangements have been announced by ARISE News following the tragic death of the 29-year-old anchor, correspondent, and producer who was killed during an armed robbery at her Abuja home on September 29, 2025.

According to the station, an evening of tributes will take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja’s Central Business District. A service of songs will follow on Wednesday, October 15, at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.

Her funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra State, after which she will be laid to rest. The ceremonies are expected to draw colleagues, friends, and admirers who continue to mourn her untimely death.

Before joining ARISE News, Maduagwu was a trained lawyer and model. She quickly gained recognition for her poise, eloquence, and professionalism on air, becoming one of the network’s promising young voices.

Her murder, which also claimed the life of a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for justice.

The Somtochukwu Maduagwu burial announcement comes amid ongoing investigations into the attack.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed on Friday that 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery. Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh revealed that the gang allegedly obtained their weapons from a supplier in the Niger Republic.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the syndicate procured its firearms including a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a pistol — from an arms dealer operating across the Nigeria–Niger border,” Adeh said.

She added that the suspects, mainly from Kaduna and Katsina States, confessed to sourcing their weapons from a yet-to-be-identified supplier.

Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, deployed a special investigation team led by DCP Aliyu Abubakar and ACP Victor Godfrey, who tracked and dismantled the network responsible for the attack.
