Nigeria Customs reports a major hard drug seizure of 86,100 grams, handing the intercepted narcotics to NDLEA in a coordinated enforcement effort

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone C, Owerri, has announced a major hard drug seizure after handing over a combined 86,100 grams of illicit substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

According to a weekend statement from the Command, the intercepted haul included 151 wraps of cannabis sativa weighing 77,500 grams and 15 wraps of Canadian loud weighing 8,600 grams.

The handover ceremony marked another significant step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking within the region.

Speaking during the event, the Customs Area Controller, Abdullahi Balogun, said the hard drug seizure underscores the collective commitment of Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies to safeguarding national security, public health and economic stability.

He explained that the contraband was concealed and transported in a manner designed to evade detection, but officers acting on credible intelligence intercepted the substances during routine patrols.

Balogun praised the vigilance and dedication of his officers, describing their action as a strong demonstration of operational discipline and professional excellence.

He added that the Customs Service, under Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, remains committed to its statutory duties of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and facilitation of legitimate trade.

He noted that the Service’s responsibilities extend beyond border protection to reinforcing national security by preventing dangerous and prohibited substances from circulating in communities.

“The handing over of these 151 wraps of cannabis sativa and 15 wraps of Canadian loud reflects the spirit of inter-agency cooperation the Federal Government continues to encourage,” Balogun said, emphasising the NDLEA’s authority in managing drug-related matters.

He reiterated that the Service will not relent in efforts to keep communities safe from the devastating effects of illicit trade and drug trafficking, urging Nigerians to provide useful information that can aid enforcement operations.
