Bezos, who will serve as co-CEO alongside Vik Bajaj, unveiled Prometheus as a venture focused on developing AI tools for engineering and manufacturing, spanning industries such as computers, aerospace, and automobiles.

This marks Bezos’s first operational role since stepping down from Amazon in 2021.

Prometheus has already assembled a team of over 100 employees, recruiting talent from leading AI organizations including Meta, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind.

Its focus on “AI for the physical economy” emphasizes practical applications of machine learning in industrial and physical systems rather than purely digital environments.

Reacting on X, Musk wrote, “Haha no way,” followed by “copy” and a cat emoji, highlighting the playful — and competitive — rivalry between Silicon Valley leaders in the fast-growing AI sector, now projected to be worth trillions of dollars in the coming years.

Project Prometheus is co-managed by Bezos and Vik Bajaj, co-founder of Foresite Labs and the life sciences division of Alphabet, Verily.

The startup aims to advance AI research with real-world applications in manufacturing, robotics, and infrastructure projects.

Bezos’s entry into industrial AI complements his post-Amazon ventures, which include Blue Origin and various philanthropic initiatives. Meanwhile, Musk continues to focus on electric vehicles, space exploration, and AI, with ventures like xAI and his acquisition of X.

The public exchange between Musk and Bezos underscores the high-stakes, personal nature of the AI race, where tech magnates compete for both market dominance and influence over next-generation AI technologies.
