Ondo Police arrest four suspected kidnappers linked to the Ilu-Abo attack after intelligence-led operations

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate linked to the Ilu-Abo attack in Akure North Local Government Area.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, said the arrests were the result of sustained, intelligence-driven operations following the violent incident on January 25, 2026.

During the attack at Liberty Avenue, Ilu-Abo, armed assailants shot one victim, abducted another, and injured two more. Following this, the police launched reinforced tactical operations, enhanced intelligence gathering, and on-the-spot assessment by the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

Jimoh revealed that the first suspect, Abenaguna Muhammad, was arrested by the Ilu-Abo Community on January 29 while in possession of criminal charms. He confessed to being part of the syndicate operating along the Ala/Ilu-Abo axis.

The investigation identified Lanre “Lanre Tomato”, Ojo, and Pius as key members of the gang. All suspects are now in police custody as authorities work to recover evidence, uncover further criminal links, and prepare for prosecution in a competent court.

The State Commissioner of Police commended the Ilu-Abo community for their vigilance and cooperation, describing their role as a “practical demonstration of effective community partnership in crime prevention.”

Lawal urged residents to continue supporting security efforts through structured vigilante services, credible intelligence sharing, and collaboration with law enforcement and other security agencies.
