Valencia coach Carlos Corberán defends Sadiq Umar after Copa del Rey exit, praising his commitment despite scoring at both ends

Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán has refused to blame Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar for his side’s Copa del Rey exit following a 2–1 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

The Mestalla clash saw Sadiq at the centre of attention, scoring at both ends in a dramatic game that ultimately knocked Valencia out of the competition.

Despite the unfortunate own goal, Corberán defended his player, insisting the incident should not overshadow his overall contribution.

“Own goals are part of football,” the Valencia boss said, praising Sadiq’s work rate and commitment. “No player intentionally puts himself in such a situation, and we fully support him.”
