Omoyele Sowore alleges Donald Trump praised Remi Tinubu at DC prayer breakfast due to money, questioning the use of religion for influence

Former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has alleged that US President Donald Trump praised Remi Tinubu because of “the power of money.”

The allegation followed Trump’s address at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, on Thursday, where he acknowledged the presence of Tinubu’s wife and described her as a “very respected woman,” highlighting her faith leadership and role in religious life.

Reacting on his official X handle, Sowore questioned why the same Trump, who recently criticised the Nigerian government over claims of genocide against Christians, is now praising figures within that government.

Sowore wrote: “@RealDonaldTrump praising ‘singing’ Remi Tinubu at his Washington DC prayer breakfast is not faith. Trump has no faith in anything but the power of money. They weaponise religion when it helps them, then auction the same religion to the highest bidder.”

Reports indicate that Remi Tinubu’s engagement with Trump came shortly after Nigeria reportedly hired a US lobbying firm in a $9 million deal aimed at shaping Washington’s understanding of the country’s security response to violence against Christian communities.
