Adeleke faces criticism for spending over 180 days abroad in 2025, with claims his foreign trips overshadowed governance in Osun State

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has come under criticism from Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, who accused him of neglecting governance in favour of frequent foreign travel and a lavish lifestyle.

In a statement on Thursday, Akinola alleged that the governor treated his electoral mandate as “a license for frivolities,” claiming that Adeleke spent more than 180 days outside Osun State in 2025.

Rather than pursuing investments or partnerships to benefit the state, Adeleke reportedly travelled to destinations in the United States and private Caribbean islands, attending social events and private gatherings.

“Governor Adeleke has essentially become a tourist in his own state,” Akinola said, adding that the governor made at least six personal trips to the United States and multiple trips to the Caribbean.

He described the pattern as a breach of public trust.

The adviser also alleged that even when in Nigeria, Adeleke rarely spent extended periods in Osogbo, raising concerns about the continuity of governance and effective coordination of state affairs.

Akinola criticised the administration’s performance in public services, noting that several schools remain understaffed, particularly in science subjects, and healthcare provision in both rural and urban communities faces serious challenges, leaving vulnerable residents without adequate medical care.

He further contended that despite increased federal allocations in recent years, there has been little corresponding improvement in infrastructure or social services in Osun State.

Describing the government as disconnected from the socio-economic realities of residents, Akinola urged citizens to remain vigilant ahead of August 8, a date he referenced as decisive for political change.
