NiMet thunderstorms forecast warns of storms in southern states as Northern and Central regions enjoy sunny weather on Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency on Thursday forecast a mix of sunny conditions and thunderstorms across parts of Nigeria for Friday, February 13, 2026.

The agency, in a weather update posted on its official X handle, said the Northern States would experience clear and sunny atmospheric conditions throughout the day, with stable skies expected from morning through evening.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency stated that similar sunny conditions would prevail across the Central States, although patches of cloud cover might appear in the morning before clearing later in the day.

In contrast, the Southern States are expected to witness cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine during the morning hours.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency warned of possible isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos and Delta States.

The agency added that thunderstorms with light rainfall were also anticipated in parts of Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos States later in the day.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency advised residents to remain vigilant, noting that thunderstorms could be accompanied by gusty winds.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution during rainfall, particularly in flood prone areas, while airline operators were advised to obtain airport specific weather reports for operational planning.
