Figo made the disclosure during an appearance on The Obi One Podcast, where he explained that delays from the Premier League side forced him to consider other options after leaving Real Madrid.

Speaking about the Luis Figo Liverpool transfer discussions, the former winger said the English club took too long to finalise a deal for his signature.

“When I moved from Real Madrid to Inter Milan, it was true that I was talking with an English Premier League club at that time,” Figo said.

“They took too long to decide, and I had a meeting with Moratti, and in that meeting and in the end I chose to go to Italy. We had big feelings in the meeting, and I think it was the best decision.”

When pressed by former John Obi Mikel about the identity of the club, Figo indicated it was Liverpool, then managed by Rafael Benitez.

“I was talking with Benitez at that time, he was in Liverpool, and in the end nothing happened,” he added.
