Davido urges celebrities to speak up against injustice and insecurity in Nigeria, calling for greater public engagement on national issues

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised the silence of Nigerian entertainers on worsening insecurity and injustice in the country, urging public figures, including himself, to become more vocal on national issues.

The award-winning singer made the remarks in a series of posts shared on X on Saturday, expressing concern over the state of the nation and calling for greater civic engagement from influential personalities.

“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey fuck up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” Davido wrote.

The musician acknowledged the difficult position often faced by celebrities who comment on public affairs, noting that criticism comes regardless of whether they speak out or remain silent.

“Talk, dem go abuse you. No talk, dem go still abuse you. Do wetin your heart tell you. No reason am. Still on still pray for Nigeria,” he added.

Davido’s comments come amid growing public concern over security challenges and recent incidents of violence and abductions across parts of the country.

The singer also expressed deep sympathy for victims and families affected by recent tragedies, describing the situation as troubling.

“I’m weak. God please take control. We can’t continue like this. My heart goes out to the victims and family. This is messed up,” he wrote.

The intervention by the music star adds to a widening conversation about the role of celebrities in addressing social and political issues.

Davido’s remarks followed public outrage over the reported abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oyo State, an incident that allegedly resulted in the deaths of two teachers.

Earlier in the week, Nigerian rapper and activist Falz joined civil society groups in calling for protests over the abduction of schoolchildren, further amplifying demands for action against insecurity.
