Lagos truck crushes LASTMA officer and two motorcyclists at Badagry Roundabout; driver in custody as investigations continue

A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officer and two commercial motorcyclists were killed instantly after a cement-laden truck veered out of control at the Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday, February 24, 2026.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck approached the busy junction at high speed before losing control, striking the traffic official while he directed vehicles and hitting two motorcyclists waiting nearby.

Police sources confirmed that the incident caused severe congestion, prompting a rapid deployment of additional personnel from LASTMA, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The truck driver was arrested at the scene and taken into custody, while the victims’ bodies were removed to a hospital mortuary. The vehicle has been impounded for further investigation.

Badagry Unit Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Sanni, attributed the crash to the driver’s loss of control and urged motorists to avoid the area.

CSP Folajimi Agosile of Badagry Police Station confirmed the driver would be prosecuted following completion of investigations and arraignment at the Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Residents described the scene as chaotic, with passersby rushing to aid victims before authorities arrived. The crash underscores ongoing concerns over traffic safety and heavy vehicle management in Lagos’s busiest junctions.
