Andre Onana aims to reclaim Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper role after loan spell at Trabzonspor amid stiff competition

Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana is preparing to fight for his place as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper next season, according to reports from The Guardian.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor and is expected to return for pre-season training with the Red Devils.

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 on a five-year contract worth an initial £44.1 million.

His first two seasons at Old Trafford were widely regarded as disappointing, prompting the club to bring in 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp last summer.

Lammens has since established himself as Manchester United’s number one, keeping a clean sheet in Monday’s 1-0 victory at Everton, with his crucial saves underlining why the club invested £18 million in his transfer.

Despite Lammens’ rise, Onana remains confident he can reclaim his position.

Sources indicate he is determined to prove himself at pre-season and convince the coaching staff to give him another opportunity at Old Trafford.

Onana’s loan spell at Trabzonspor has been challenging, and the deal will not be made permanent.

His future at Manchester United is uncertain, with the possibility of another loan or permanent transfer being considered.
