A 300-level student of the University of Ibadan has died after allegedly ingesting a substance identified as insecticide. The student was treated at UCH but could not be saved

A 300-level student of the University of Ibadan has died after allegedly consuming a substance suspected to be an insecticide.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night at Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall. A fellow student found the deceased in a distressed and unconscious state on the ground floor of the hall.

The student reportedly admitted to taking a substance identified as Sniper before being rushed to the university clinic.

After initial stabilization at the clinic, the student was referred to University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, where he was placed on life support. Unfortunately, he later passed away.

Funmi Adetuyibi, Public Relations Officer at UCH, confirmed the death on Tuesday:
“Yes, it is true. He was brought to the hospital. He is dead,” she said.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the student community, and authorities are reportedly investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.
