Police launch manhunt after 19-year-old undergraduate allegedly stabbed to death during a dispute between siblings in Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 19-year-old undergraduate, Joseph, who was allegedly stabbed to death by his elder brother, Fejiro, 21, following a violent dispute at their shared residence in Delta State.

The tragic incident, which occurred on 17 June 2026, involved the two brothers, both students of the same higher institution and living in accommodation provided by their parents.

Confirming the development, Delta State Police Command spokesperson SP Bright Edafe described the case as a deeply disturbing incident that highlights the importance of family values and moral upbringing among young people.

According to Edafe, the disagreement between the brothers escalated into a physical confrontation before neighbours intervened and separated them. However, the situation reportedly reignited shortly afterwards.

“Brothers can turn against brothers. Children can turn against their parents if they are not properly brought up. And that is what actually played out on the 17th of June, 2026,” Edafe said.

Investigators said the altercation, reportedly triggered by a disagreement over bedroom slippers, continued behind the house after the initial intervention by neighbours.

Police alleged that Fejiro later armed himself with a kitchen knife and attacked his younger brother, inflicting multiple stab wounds.

“The elder brother named Fejiro, who is about three years older than the younger brother, took a kitchen knife and stabbed his younger brother multiple times and ran away,” Edafe stated.

The victim was confirmed dead following the attack.

The Delta student killed by brother case has since prompted a police manhunt, with authorities confirming that the suspect remains at large several days after the incident.

“Till now, he is at large. Till now, we are still looking for him,” Edafe added.

While investigations are ongoing, the police spokesperson suggested that detectives are exploring possible factors behind the violence, including alleged drug abuse or cult-related influences.

“It is either abuse of drugs or cultism. It is either of the two,” he said, while noting that investigators are yet to reach a final conclusion.

The Delta student killed by brother incident has generated concern among residents and members of the academic community, given the ages of those involved and the family relationship between the victim and suspect.

Edafe assured the public that the command remains committed to apprehending the suspect and ensuring that justice is served.

He also used the opportunity to urge parents and guardians to reinforce moral values and peaceful conflict resolution among children and young adults.

“Teach them right and good moral values. Teach them to love one another. It is very, very important for them to love themselves,” he said.

Police say further details will emerge as investigations continue and efforts to locate the suspect intensify.
